CANP Board
The Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention (CANP) Board was formed in 2022 by
KRS 15.905 for the "coordination and exchange of information on the establishment and maintenance of prevention programs." (KRS 15.920) The Board also oversees the
Child Victims' Trust Fund (CVTF), a non-profit program that provides local communities with funding for child abuse prevention programs and reimbursement for the portion of child sexual abuse and child abuse and neglect medical exam expenses not covered by Medicaid or private insurance.
Goals of the Board
- To promote public and professional education on the nature and scope of child abuse and related issues, indicators, laws, roles, and resources;
- To raise awareness that it is adults’ responsibility to provide a safe community for children;
- To reduce the incidence and impact of child abuse by promoting, supporting and/or funding effective programs; and
- To establish procedures to generate and oversee the effective and efficient use of CVTF monies.

Request for Proposals
The Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Board is pleased to announce grant funding opportunities to support child maltreatment prevention initiatives.
Conferences and Events
Funding is available for conferences and events that provide educational or public informational programming focused on the prevention of child sexual abuse and exploitation, as well as child abuse and neglect. Proposed conferences and events must take place during Fiscal Year 2027, between July 1, 2026, and June 30, 2027. Funding requests must be between $1,000 and $5,000 per request, The total awarded amount for all sponsorship requests will not exceed $10,000.
Prevention Grants
The Board is also accepting grant proposals for child sexual abuse and exploitation and child abuse and neglect prevention projects. The proposed project should:
- Address the primary and/or secondary prevention of child abuse and neglect
- Build the capacity of non-profit organizations in Kentucky to provide resources and/or assistance to children and families in need of concrete supports
Proposed projects must also occur during Fiscal Year 2027 (July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027). Total funding for this category is limited to $50,000 per project. Up to two proposals will be awarded.
Applications will be accepted from February 16, 2026, through March 31, 2026. Applicants proposing conferences or events should submit their materials using the application available

PreventionApplication_FY 2027.docx. Completed applications must be submitted via email to kids@ky.gov.
The Board will vote on proposals at its May 18, 2026, meeting, and all applicants will be notified of the decisions afterward. If you have questions about the request for proposal process, you can email kids@ky.gov or contact the Office of the Attorney General at 502-696-5300.
